Found A Kitten?

Sometimes the kittens aren't lost or abandoned, but just waiting for mom to come back.  She could be watching you right now! Below is information to help you determine your next steps after you've found a kitten.

Check the Health of the Kitten

If the kitten is visibly injured or sick, take the kitten to a veterinarian immediately.

Determine the Age of the Kitten

Kittens under 8 weeks old

  • can have closed eyes

  • folded ears

  • can't walk

  • under 2 pounds

They are fragile so care should be taken when handling them.

Kittens 8 weeks or older

  • Play, behave & look like adult cats.

  • 2 pounds or more

How To Tell If Mom Has Returned To Her Kittens

Put a ring of flour around the kittens and look for paw prints  to see if mom has returned to them.

Stay With Mom

If they are doing well, let the kittens stay with Mom outdoors.  When they are ready for have them all spayed, neutered and return to the outside.

Find a New Home

Ask a veterinarian to examine and spay & neuter the kittens.  Then find homes where the kittens can be socialized to peopleI

Kitten Care

Without mom to care for them, these kittens need your help! Neonatal kittens especial require around-the-clock care including bottle feeding,

Trap, Neuter, Return

Kittens over 4 months old cannot be socialized, but they will live long, healthy outdoor lives.  Neuter and vaccinate before returning them to their colony.
